We're going regional and we're going to lunch.
Oh a wonderful day was had on Friday 16th March at the Regional Longest Lunch at Scub Hill 1869, Newlyn, one of the lunches that was part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. Food, local gin and music - a trilogy that sits very well with me!
Scrub Hill 1869 is an event space in a beautiful location around 90 minutes from Melbourne, we enjoyed the day sitting outside the lovely bluestone church under the shade of a very old Himalayan Cedar Tree. Around 120 guests, all appreciating the hard work that goes into such a lunch, provided by Matt Wilkinson from Pope Joan and his merry team - I don't know what they did to those tomatoes but they were sublime. What am I saying - everything was sublime! 97% of the produce was sourced from around the immediate vicinity - can't get more local or community minded than that.
Make a daytrip and check it out - first stop, have a look at the Scrub Hill 1869 website and see what's on - they hold some great musical events and other fun. Also it's a great place for a party or wedding, any celebration. Heaps of B&Bs in the area if you would rather stay the night - what a gorgeous destination and a terrific day.
